On Saturday, September 28, 2024 the Dream Keepers Foundation hosted the inaugural Black Tie Scholarship Gala to raise funds to support scholarships for college bound students that will be attending four-year institutions; and students matriculating at trade schools and pursuing career certification programs. Held at Bally’s Casino Resort in Dover, Delaware, the event promoted as “an evening of elegance and a celebration of excellence” featured an arrival social; a red carpet photoshoot; VIP social for event sponsors that featured the famed “The Quiet Storm” Jazz Ensemble; Community Excellence Awards Ceremony; and live entertainment from Best Kept Soul, Delaware’s premier live band. The event showcased some of the youth participants of the Dover Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi’s Dream 13 Kappa League . 500 patrons helped raise more than $18,000 for the cause. In addition to the funds raised, the foundation issued $9,000 in scholarships during the event. “An event of this magnitude would not be possible without our sponsors” said Cliffvon Howell, president of the Dream Keepers Foundation. Howell added, “Our goal is to issue at least $15,000 in scholarships each year.” Stay tuned for announcements regarding the second Annual Black Tie Scholarship Gala.

The holidays are a time when food insecurity is often overlooked. On December 18, 2021, the Dream Keepers Foundation partnered with M&J S.W.A.T. Community Service Organization; Food Bank of Delaware, Kingdom Empowerment Church, Mountaire Farms, and the Dover (DE) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. to distribute dinner boxes filled items to ensure more than (90) deserving families would be able to gather over a meal.
Dream 13 group sits and learns from NBA Co-Commissioners Mark Tatum at NBA Headquarters

The Dream 13 Kappa League program had a full weekend of Leadership and Development activities, including a visit to the National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner’s Office to meet NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, and a Career Day to learn about career opportunities in professional sports beyond the court and the professional lives of Brothers from Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. The Commissioner’s Office visit took place on Friday, November, 10th, in New York City at the NBA Headquarters. The NBA staff provided a tour of the office ; a presentation of the business side of the NBA, and held a panel discussion about their career pathways and direct experiences working at the NBA Head Office. The highlight of the tour was a Q&A session with Mark Tatum, where the Kappa Leaguers learned about his career and important steps that assisted him in earning the role of Deputy Commissioner of the NBA.
